Pleo delayed again due to battery problem

Dean Takahashi  of the Mercury News reports that Ugobe is delaying the launch of its Pleo robot dinosaur by a month until the end of November:

The reason is a glitch with the battery charging that the company discovered during user testing. It seems the current method of plugging a cord into Pleo’s belly to charge the battery results in a problem.

The battery heats up too fast and then cuts off the charging at around 45 minutes or so. Since it takes three to four hours to charge Pleo, that means that it doesn’t get a full charge. So the company is going to change Pleo so that you take the battery pack out of the dinosaur and put it into a charging dock. That way, the heat threshold isn’t hit and the battery can charge for hours.
