New computer program could keep your brain from aging

This month’s Discover magazine has a five-page spread on Dr. Michael Merzenich called “The Elastic Brain.”

Merzenich believes you can tone your mind and stave off memory loss. All it takes is time sitting at a PC with a computer program he created.

Merzenich, a neuroscience professor at the University of California at San Francisco, said the technique relies on a process called plasticity—the brain’s innate capacity to reshape itself and even increase its complexity throughout a lifetime, depending on experience.

One aspect of Merzenich’s computer program is improving auditory processing, or the ability to comprehend what you hear.

Take a cool 10-minute brain speed test here that measures your auditory processing ability.  They even give you a score at the end.

Great fun!! took your word recall test. got 7 out of 15. I compared

to a 20 year old, and I’m 66 years of age. Attribute this to the fact

that I work crossword puzzles everyday.

Good times. Really enjoyed the Brain Speed Test and Word List Recall. I really like what this company is doing. I saw they had a ton of videos on YouTube about the program and customer testimonials. Very interesting stuff.
