X Prize Cup expects 100,000 people this year

This years X PRIZE Cup in Las Cruces, New Mexico this fall is expected to result in an 8-fold increase in competing teams and crowds.  

Last year, the X PRIZE Cup attracted one actual vehicle, from Armadillo Aerospace, competing for the $2M Lunar Lander Challenge and an estimated crowd of 15,000. This years expanded plans are expected to attract up to 8 viable competing spaceships for the challenge, and crowds exceeding 100,000, including a group of more than 10,000 schoolchildren.

X PRIZE Foundation and Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB) also announced a partnership intended to create the worlds largest Air & Space Flight Demonstration.” The Air Force will have single ship demos from F-16, F-22, F-117 aircraft.

The flights and ground events will be held in Las Cruces, N.M. and HAFB in Alamagordo from October 24 28, 2007.
