Second Virginia spaceport launch is a success

A U.S. Air Force Minotaur 1 rocket was successfully launched Tuesday at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, supplying a beautiful, dazzling glow to the dark skies above.

The rocket launched at 2:48 a.m., and is the second hosted at the spaceport. The previous launch was held in December.

The successful launch marks another big step for the spaceport, which is operated by a consortium that includes Old Dominion University and the states of Maryland and Virginia.

It was designed to loft into space private and government satellites, with the area enjoying an economic boon of jobs and services as a result. It is one of only six spaceports in the U.S. that are federally licensed.
