Officials near spaceport deal with Virgin Galactic

The anchor tenant for Spaceport America may be close to finalizing the terms of a lease agreement with the state.

Rick Homans, New Mexico secretary of economic development and Spaceport Authority chair, confirmed the state is at a pivotal point in negotiations with Virgin Galactic, the British company that plans to base its space tourism operations at the spaceport.

“This week is a very important week in that negotiation to finalize some outstanding issues,” Homans said. “We’re confident that we can reach agreement and as soon as we do we will sign an agreement with Virgin (Galactic).”

Homans wouldn’t specify when the agreement would be finalized.
