Lack of rain no biggie yet, say scientists

A surprisingly sober look at the weather from The San Francisco Chronicle

There has been less rain than normal, particularly in Southern California. The Sierra snowpack is less than half as deep as it was at this time last year. Areas of the Central Valley have been colder than in past decades. And then in the last two days, temperatures hit or broke record highs in Oakland.

It’s still too early to say what the rest of the winter will bring. Yet climate scientists say they can’t look at any one year and tell whether the odd weather reflects a signal of global warming.
