‘Fat zappers’ and clever nappies predicted

The British are at it again with predictions for the future.  Earlier this week a report stated that robots would be given rights in 50 years; now scientists are predicting “fat zappers” will help curb the obesity problem by 2020.

The zapper evidently will involve walking through a device that looks like an airport scanner and having love handles “zapped” off by laser.  Count me out, thank you.  How about eating less?

Scientists back in 1986 also made predictions about what life would be like in 2000.  Results were mixed.  They rightly predicted that survival rates for cancers would increase from 50% to 65%, but also said heart disease would be partially alleviated by better eating habits – which failed to predict the burgeoning obesity crisis.
