British to develop unmanned war plane

Artist's impression of the plane

Named after the Celtic god of thunder, the unmanned Taranis would be controlled remotely by the military from control centers, removing the need to have a pilot in the plane.

One day most of our wars will be fought by unmanned vehicles, planes and robots.  No word yet on whether these unmanned vehicles, planes and robots will be shooting at other unmanned vehicles, planes and robots.

Nevertheless, the Taranis should be ready for testing in early 2009, with the first flight trials taking place in 2010.
