Taiwan company to make Pleo

Associated Press article reports on the decision by Ugobe to contract Taiwan’s largest electronics company to assemble and manufacture its newest robotic dinosaur toy, Pleo:

Pleo inventor Caleb Chung, co-founder of Ugobe, said he had spent four years developing the toy, which he described as a baby dinosaur with human characteristics.

“Just like any pets, Pleo can be taught to do many tricks, like shaking hands, wagging its tail, … and begging for food,” Chung said.

Ugobe CEO Bob Christopher said the company has programmed the Pleo to express emotions through emitting sounds and moving its face. Also, it can appear to have a personality selected by its owner, he said.
